Thanks for the thoughtful reply, Simon! I will add Red Lantern, The Descent, and 8 Women to my list. And The Great Escape and Lawrence of Arabia... when I feel like it. :) I'm not making the argument that all movies *should* or *have to* have female characters in them. It's just not something I'm interested in watching, for now. Sure, maybe this is an overcorrection from being inundated with mostly dude-centric media for the last 30 years or so, but I just don't want to spend time on it, even if it's a well-told story. That said, it's not even a big moral decision so much as just a resounding "meh" feeling when I watch a trailer without a significant female role. Maybe that feeling will go away once I feel like my mental map of the gender representation in my media consumption has balanced out a bit - I hope it does!
