Nah, this is pretty far-off from what we're aiming for or intend. We do want expertise and depth on the platform, for sure. But we believe that expertise can come from anywhere. Re: academics, we think they're a great match for writing on Medium because they help people deepen understanding of the world and that is Medium's mission. But we are specifically not limiting our focus to, say, tenure-track only (students have lots of great ideas to share!). Actually, a lot of the positive feedback we've gotten from academics and former academics is about Medium as a counterpart to traditional academic publishing - a "way to break Ivory Tower silos".

It's also not the only writer audience on Medium we're looking to grow or a single strategy; it's part of a bigger strategy. But yeah, I wrote a post about the world of academic writing on Medium because I think it can be helpful for others to learn about and maybe use Medium as a platform to share their ideas, too. But I think Medium is a great place for lots of different types of people to find a home and community for their writing!
